Large shade trees are some of the most valuable plants on your property, but they are also the hardest to reach. When insects or diseases get established in the upper canopy, a handheld sprayer is not enough.

When Foliar Applications Make Sense

Most of the time, we prefer soil-based or systemic options for insect and disease control. There are situations, however, where a true foliar spray is still the right tool:

- Heavy infestations of scale insects on branches and twigs.
- Aphids and mites feeding on new growth in the canopy.
- Caterpillars defoliating sections of a tree.
- Fungal diseases that require direct coverage on leaves and shoots.

In these cases, getting the material to the top of the tree is the challenge. That is where high pressure applications come in.

Reaching The Full Canopy

Our high pressure rigs are designed specifically for shade tree work. With the right combination of pump, hose, and nozzle.

Before any application, our technicians walk the site, look at targets and wind patterns, and plan the best approach so material goes where it belongs.

We can:

  • Deliver sprays to trees up to approximately 100 feet tall.
  • Reach over structures and into canopies that are not accessible from the ground with small equipment.
  • Adjust droplet size and pressure to get good coverage while controlling drift.

Targeted Treatments For Tree Pests And Diseases

Every property has a different mix of trees and issues. During a high pressure application visit, we focus on the specific problems present on your site.

We do not automatically spray every tree on the property. Instead, we identify which trees need treatment and match the product and coverage to that situation.

We focus on:

  • Scale insects on maples, magnolias, oaks or other ornamentals.
  • Aphids and mites creating sticky honeydew and leaf stippling.
  • Caterpillars feeding in clusters on shade trees.
  • Fungal activity on leaves and shoots that calls for foliar fungicides.

How Shade Tree Sprays Fit Your Overall Program?

High pressure foliar applications are one part of a broader Shrub and Tree Care plan. In many landscapes they are used alongside:

- Deep Root Tree Fertilization to support stronger root systems and overall vigor.
- Ornamental Program services for shrubs and lower ornamentals.
- Preventive Disease Treatments that protect disease prone species at key times.
- Sprayless Treatments such as soil injections for trees where foliar spraying is not ideal.

Taking this whole-property view helps reduce how often major sprays are needed and makes each treatment more effective.

Safety, Timing And Communication

Working on large trees requires both technical skill and clear communication. When we schedule high pressure applications. Our goal is to solve the problem in the canopy while respecting the rest of your landscape and how you use the property.

When we schedule high pressure applications, we:

  • Choose timing around weather and pest activity so treatments are not wasted.
  • Take care with nearby patios, play areas, and neighboring properties.
  • Let you know what we are treating, why we are doing it now, and what to expect afterward.

Ready To Give Your Big Trees Proper Care?

If you are seeing insects, thinning foliage, or disease high up in your shade trees, or you have been told they are “too tall to treat,” we can help. Call Scientific Plant Service or request a shade tree evaluation. We will inspect your trees, explain whether high pressure applications are appropriate, and design a plan that keeps your large trees healthier from the top of the canopy down to the root zone.
