Grubs are the larvae of Japanese beetles, June beetles, chafers, and others that feast on organic matter in the soil, including your grassroots. While a few grubs won’t cause harm to your grass, a large number of them can cause damage to your lawn. Birds and other animals can tear up your lawn looking for grubs to eat which will cause more damage. Continue reading to a few prevention tips and how to control grubs in your landscape.
The Cycle of Grubs
The cycle of grubs starts when beetles emerge in early summer and feed on the plants in your garden, then lay their eggs in the soil. In late summer, the grubs will hatch and immediately begin to feed, and will continue to grow until they move deeper in the soil to survive the winter. By spring, they will be large, mature grubs, and will soon transform into adult beetles in early summer to start the entire process over again. To stop this cycle, it’s crucial to kill the grubs before they hatch and cause any damage to your lawn.

Instead of waiting until after the damage occurs, the best way to avoid grubs in your lawn is with preventative maintenance. If you see brown spots in your lawn, it is very possible that you have a grub problem and should call Scientific Plant Service right away.
