To some, the sight of this wispy grass and its large plumed seed head blowing in the breeze is aesthetically pleasing, however, if it’s growing on your property, you know what a nightmare it can be. Its’ extensive rhizomatous root system makes this invasive species very aggressive and difficult to kill. To be effective, herbicide applications must be made in the fall after up-ward growth has stopped and the seed head is set, allowing the herbicide to move downward into the complex root system. For maximum effectiveness treatments should be made between mid-August and late-October before frost.
